The Cardinal Housing Network is a transitional housing program for women in Substance Use Disorder recovery. Our mission is to improve recovery outcomes for women by providing a safe, supportive housing model. Our vision is that every woman who seeks recovery from substance use disorder will have access to supportive housing opportunities that promote healing, family reunification, and community transformation.
We currently operate one group home for 10 single women. Our home is located in downtown Lawrence, Kansas.

Community need
Transitional housing serves as a soft landing spot for individuals in early recovery who need time to get back on their feet. However, the housing resources for this population are limited in our community. Women have far fewer transitional housing opportunities than the male population, and a quarter of the beds available that surrounding communities like Shawnee, Sedgwick, and Johnson County have for women.

We are trying to change that. Providing women and female headed households with safe, supportive, and affordable housing opportunities not only enhances individual outcomes but ultimately, supports family preservation. Cardinal Housing Network works in collaboration with various local agencies to bridge housing gaps for women and children. The organization’s work seeks to meet needs addressed in two Lawrence/Douglas County based community plans: A Place for Everyone and the Community Health Improvement Plan.
